The 2021 Top Default Consumption List
2021 is here! A new year with new opportunities for learning and laughter. I decided to dedicate my first blog of the year to that subject. Hope you find some enjoyment and wisdom in here someplace….
Top Three Streaming Shows that will make you Laugh no matter how serious the world gets:
Schitt’s Creek- The characters/actors go from episode to episode making lemonade out of the lemons that are their daily lives. Watch it on Netflix.
Kim’s Convenience- The Canadians keep it going with the comedic views on everyday life. The Kim family are really jedi masters in disguise with little bits of it peeking out in episodes featuring Hapkido and Subisu. Wicked smart and funny. Another Netflix pickup.
Kath & Kim- An Australian entrant which I cant watch more than one episode because of how ridiculous it is. It starts off with a bang and never let’s up. Dont watch it with your kids in the room! Also on Netflix.
Top Three Sites to make you a little bit smarter
The Investors Field Guide- Patrick O’Shaughnessy is and amazing content producer. The interviews he has with top leaders and innovators are always solid. I’ve made it a point to listen to 1–2 of these a week now as a 2021 objective. He just rebranded it into a new offering called Colossus. Not sure where it is headed but I’m signing up for the ride.
Stratechery- Another great content play spearheaded by Ben Thompson. Great content on tech and strategy or is it strategy and tech? Who knows… Regardless another worthwhile listen or read or both.
Benedict Evans- I’ve just started digging into his work but so far so good. Much like the two aforementioned producers he does an excellent job of assembling content and enabling thoughtful views on different subjects.
Top Old School Media for improvement of your Worldview
The Economist- Ditch the WSJ or the NYT this year and go with this venerable weekly magazine. The content and writing are both balanced and insightful on global events across politics, health, finance and business. it’s my carry with when I don’t want to be dependent on electronics.
